After a 15 year break we are proud to announce the return of American Football to Swindon. Since the passing of the Swindon Steelers in the mid 1990s anyone wanting to take part in this exciting adrenaline fuelled sport has had to travel to different counties to get their fix

Local resident Steve Bennett, with 16 years experience in the sport decided this had to change and for the last 3 years has been steadily building a club in Swindon. With the help of a few committed local players, Coach Bennett has been developing the structure of the club while gaining coaching experience working with other teams in Bristol, Reading and Bath. Both Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire Council have been a great help in creating the foundations of the club. They have given the team access to government funding as well as coaching, first aid and youth welfare and protection qualifications, along with enhanced Criminal Record Bureau checks for all the staff. The funding the team have secured over the past 3 years means any prospective new player aged 16 or over can try the sport for free by using one of the 40 sets of club helmets and shoulder pads.

It doesn’t stop there! We now have a fantastic new website, with an online shop selling team merchandise and are building partnerships with local companies in the sports and fitness industries. The team have always been keen to develop links with Swindon’s fitness fraternity and Coach Bennett became a qualified fitness instructor with the help of Swindon Borough Council in 2010. This has allowed him to recruit several personal trainers and sports coaches onto the staff, as well as ex players from the Steelers days. The guys bring a wealth of knowledge to the club, not just in the skills of American Football, but in strength and conditioning and sports nutrition.

Now is a great time to get involved in the club in its build up to competition next summer. All kit is supplied by the team and no previous experience is required.
